revised 5/9/2000

Framing of the 2000 GMWP house was begun on March 31. Led by Brother Corky Hester, several brethren from Mount Juliet Lodge, Brothers David Williamson and Melvin Giles (both Past Masters of Rockford Lodge #469) and GMWP subfloor director Brother Tom Boduch and his wife Betty built the house's sub-floor and are shown in the photo at left gluing and nailing plywood.

The sub-floor was completed as the sun was setting. Shown in the photo at right are (from left to right) Brother Melvin Giles, Brother David Williamson, Betty Boduch and Brother Corky Hester.

devotional Framing began Saturday morning April 1. In addition to the crew present the day before, Brother Robert Hall, 1st Wall Brother Melvin Kirby (Sparta Lodge #99), brethern from other local Lodges and several Wilson County HFH homeowners (current and future) gathered for a devotional service before beginning work; the prayer was led by Brother Melvin Kirby (see photo above). The 1st Wall (photo at right) was soon raised.

Girl Scouts Work continued at a steady pace and soon it was time to break for lunch. A hearty lunch was served by members of Lebanon's Girl Scout troop #787. Brother Melvin Giles is shown in the photo at left with the girls whose meal was appreciated by all. Trusses By the end of the day, all the walls (exterior and interior) were built and braced. On Sunday April 2, project director Brother Corky Hester assembled a crew of local brethren to set the trusses. The house is shown in the photo at right at the end of the work day. During the week, the trusses and walls were braced. On Friday April 7, Brother Don Hover (PM 124) installed the dead wood in preparation for sheetrock.

On Saturday April 8, despite rain and snow showers (in April???) and falling temperatures, Brother Corky Hester, Brother Hover and GMWP Roof View Director Brother Tom Boduch assembled at the work site with several Wilson County HFH homeowners. By noon, they had installed the roof decking.

After pausing for lunch (and a devotional service), and warming themselves in their cars, the workers began to shingle the roof and are shown in the photo at left. While they were working on the roof, Brother Preston Marsh began the electrical rough in and greatly appreciated the roof being built over his head as he worked. By the end of the day, a third of the roof had been shingled--the shingling was completed by several brethren from local lodges over the next few weeks.

Saturday April 15 was a better day weather wise and much work was accomplished. Housewrap, windows and doors were installed. During the preceeding week, Brother Bennie Watkins completed 90% of the electrical rough-in.

On Tuesday April 18, Brother Jimmy Turner, Brother James Hubbell and Jackson Area HFH Building coodrinator James Decouta traveled over 150 miles to rough in the plumbing. Framed House Brother Robert Hall (Sparta Lodge #99) arranged for purchase of the vinyl siding at cost from a local distributor, and brought the material to the job site.

On Saturday April 22, Brothers David Daniel and a crew from Ashland City Lodge installed the vinyl siding. Grand Master K. I. Wright also spent the day the work site, and helped with various things that needed to be done. A hearty lunch was served by members of the Rose Croix OES Chapter of Lebanon. Roof shingling was completed by Brother Mike Horvath, a new member of Mt. Juliet Lodge. The house is shown in the photo at right as of April 27.
