The 2000 GMWP house will be built in a HABITAT sub-division located on the corner of West Adams and South Maple Streets in Lebanon. 3 houses have been constructed thus far on the property--ultimately 6 families will call it home.

Wilson County HFH purchased this property in the summer of 1998. 2000 GMWP Director, Brother Corky Hester, who is also a retired realtor, facilitated this land purchase. The property had an old condemned burned out house on it. On November 27, 1998, Brother John Crowder III, a member of Mt. Juliet Lodge #642, razed the house and is shown doing this in the photo below

House Razing.

The house to the right is the first one built in the sub-divison and was sponsored by the Presbyterian Churches of the Cumberland District. The 2000 GMWP house will be built behind this house.

The remnants were subsequently hauled to the Wilson County landfill on November 28. Brother John Crowder IV, also a member of Mount Juliet Lodge, arranged for the loan of the loader and dump trucks. Brother Corky Hester arranged for free tipping at the land fill.

The foundation rock from the razed house was salvaged and hauled to another Wilson County HFH house located in Mount Juliet. When the road to the house was built, a culvert was placed in a creek crossing with out wing walls. Over time, rain eroded much of the fill making the bridge hazardous to cross. Members of Mount Juliet Lodge took on the task of building the required wing walls using brick, mortar, and the salvaged foundation stone.

To get to the building site, take I-40 to Exit 238 (Lebanon) and proceed 1 mile NORTH on route 231 (heading toward downtown Lebanon). The ADAMS AVENUE CHURCH OF CHRIST will be on your left. Turn LEFT on West Adams Street and proceed 0.3 mile to the corner of South Maple and West Adams Streets. The 2000 GMWP site is on West Adams Street, and is the third house on the left.
