2001 GMWP Pin

Framing of the 2001 Campbell County HFH house was begun on Saturday April 21. It was a beautiful, partly cloudy day, great for working with a mild breeze.

Nearly 30 volunteers arrived at the building site by 8:30 AM. Volunteers included future home owner Kathy Davis, a large group from the Lake View Baptist Church, several regular Campbell County HFH volunteers. Masons present included GMWP director Brother Tom Boduch, GMWP veterans, Bros. David Williamson (469 PM), Melvin Giles (469 PM, Treasurer) and Jerry Swaney (519 PM), and Brother Earl Chapman LaFolette Lodge). Leading the day's work was Campbell County HFH volunteer, John Davis.

Start of Work Day
When the work day began, the foundation had been built, the sill was bolted down to the foundation and the center beam installed.
Joists
By 9:30 A. M., all the floor joists had been set.
Finished Sub Floor
The floor decking and cross bridging was set next. This photo is taken from the back side of the house, facing Patty Road. Notice the beautiful view in the background that will be seen from the front porch and living room!
Lunch Blessing
By noon, the sub-floor had been set, and it was time to break for lunch. Lunch was provided by the Carryville Shoney's. All the workers paused to ask a blessing.

framed house During the subsequent week, several Campbell County HFH volunteers finished building the front wall and interior walls, stood them in place and tied them together. The house was also braced so the walls would remain plum and is shown in the photo at right.

On Tuesday April 24, Junior Grand Deacon, Brother Glen Day , Brother Gene Clark (MI), Brother Johnny Bruce (EA 665) and Eddie Bruce participated in Campbell HFH's annual fund raising golf tournament and shot a team score of 58!

On Saturday, April 28, the roof trusses were set. Roof decking was installed and covered with tar paper.

End of Day 2

During the subsequent week, Campbell County HFH Volunteers John Davis and Dick Baker installed the windows. On Saturday May 5, a group from Caryville New Life Worship Center began to install vinyl siding. At the same time, the roof was shingled. Leading the roofing was GMWP Director Brother Tom Boduch. Roofing He was assisted by Marie Pierce (daughter of Laura and James Pierce owners and operators of Pierce Roofing Inc. of Roane County). Brothers Melvin Giles and David Williamson (both Past Masters of Rockford Lodge #469) assisted along with several Campbell County HFH volunteers. The house is shown in the photo at right and the roofing neared completion.

On Saturday May 26, Grand Master Esco Owens held his final District District Meeting meeting in his home District (#18), which was held at the Lake City Middle School. During the meeting, GMWP Director Brother Tom Boduch presented Campbell County HFH president Bob Lee with a donation of funds collected at the previous district meetings. Shown in the photo at left (from left to right) are Grand Master Owens, Bob Lee and Brother Tom Boduch.

Over the next 2 months, numerous volunteers completed the house; it was dedicated on Sunday August 18.
