JEFFERSON COUNTY HFH
FRAMING THE HOUSE
As shown in the photo at right, framing of the 2001 GMWP Jefferson County HFH house was begun on Saturday July 21, 2001. Over 25 volunteers participated. Volunteers included several Jefferson HFH regular. Masons present were New Providence Lodge #128 Worshipful Master Brother Mark Hudspeth, Rockford Lodge #469 Past Masters Brothers David Williamson and Melvin Giles (current Treasurer), Mountain View Lodge #519 Past Master Brother Jerry Swaney, Brother Jim Damewood (Strawberry Plains Lodge #462), and GMWP director Brother Tom Boduch. Representing Tennessee DeMolay were state Master Councilor Nathan Rogers, Kingsport DeMolay member Matt Hall, and chapter Dad advisor Brother Bill Craddock (Kingsport Lodge #688).
Nathan, who was installed the previous week as Master Councilor, has adopted HABITAT FOR HUMANITY as a community service project for his year. He is shown at right in the photo at right assisting fellow DeMolay Matt Hall cutting lumber for window frames. Shown in the photo at right are Brother Jim Damewood (right) and Brother Mark Hudspeth.
Shown in the photo at right from left to right (standing in the window) Matt Hall, Nathan Rogers, Jefferson HFH Past President Mary Smirl, Brothers Bill Craddock and Tom Boduch. Standing on the ground are Brothers Jim Damewood, Mark Hudspeth, David Williamson, Jerry Swaney, future homeowner Lynne Bullins, and Brothers Melvin Giles.
Due to the heat, work stopped around 1:30 P.M., but much more than planned had been done. All 4 exterior walls were raised and braced. Window and door openings were framed and cut. 2 long interior walls were built, raised and braced. Future homeonwer Lynne Bullins is shown in the photo at left standing on what will be the front entrance to her new home.
During the next week, despite considerable rain, more interior walls were built and the trusses were set (see photo at right).
On Saturday, July 28 roof decking was installed by Brother Tom Boduch and Kenny Davis of Mossy Creek Lodge #353. Assisting were homeowner Lynne Bullins, Jefferson HFH Building supervisors Helen and Harold Coddington and Past President Mary Smirl. The house is shown in the photo at left at the end of the work day.
