The outside of the house @ 917 S. Maple remains as it was two months ago. However great strides have been made for the 2002 GMWP thanks to many Masons and non-masons in the area. Brothers Jimmy Turner, Bill Whisel, Charles Stevens and Ross Mathews of St. Johns Lodge #332 of Jackson have completed the plumbing. Bros. Charlie Crane, Jimmy Seaton, Bob McGoldrick, Jim Enochs, Neal Blankenship, Bill Candy, David Erwin and Mr. Harris Gorden have roughed in the electrical using all electrical material donated by Brother Ben Dunford P.M. of Frayser Lodge # 746 of Memphis. The entire HVAC has been installed thanks to Brother Sam Kirk of Desota Lodge # 299 of Memphis . All but $1000.00 of the cost of material and labor is donated by Brother Kirk who owns C & K Air Conditioning Co. The remaining $1000.00 is being raised by the efforts of Charles Moore, Chief Rabban of the Al Chymia Shrine Temple. Brothers Larry Whaley and Glen Cook of Frayser Lodge # 746 of Memphis came up Sat 11-2-02 along with Ken Hartsville of Tipton Lodge # 226 of Munford and yours truly got a good start on the drywall. The ceiling sheets are hung. We hope to finish the drywall this week with the professional help of Brother Jim Morgan of Frayser lodge # 746 of Memphis,. After that Brother Ron Mohundro and Mr. Buddy McCollough will be installing the custom built oak cabinets they are famous for. We are excited at the possibility of having the Smith family in their new home by Christmas. | |
The house is completed and the family moved in Mon. 12/23/02 in time for Christmas! A dedication ceremony will be scheduled for January or early February 2003.
Many Masons contributed materials and labor to build this house. Here is a partial list:
The electrial work was performed by Brother Charlie Crane and his crew. The plumbing was done by Bro. Jimmy Turner and crew. The insulation was installed by Bro. Bill Pressler. Bro. Sam Kirk and some Shriners furnished the A.C. & heat. The kitchen cabinets were manufactured and installed by Bro. Ron Mohundro.
The various other tasks such as sheet rock, trim, framing, roofing was done by Mason volunteers led by Ken Hartsfield P.M. of Tipton lodge. Over and above all this participation we deposited well over $17,00.00 in donations, T-shirts, pin sales and PENNIES FROM HEAVEN. The Smith family is very excited about their new home and extends sincere gratitude to the Tennessee Masons. This was a good project. We've made a positive impression of Masonry here in Covington, TN . I've enjoyed being a part of it! Bill Wallace
