Cleveland HFH was organized in 1990 and has completed 37 homes--the 2004 GMWP house will be Cleveland HFH's 38th home. According to the U. S. Census, almost 90,000 people live in Bradley County, with over 10,000 living below poverty. Cleveland HFH is committed to building homes for people in need and therefore improving the local community. Cleveland HFH is a non-profit [501(c)(3)] corporation and donations are generally tax deductible--please check with your tax advisor. Cleveland HFH's Executive Director, Matt Carlson may be contacted at 423 476 6947. The 2004 GMWP Hosue will be funded by donations made by our Masonic Family, proceeds from the Cleveland HFH Re-store operated by Brothers Walter Brooks and Jarvis Goober, and other fund raising activities. The house will be built by volunteers--both Masons and non-Masons. The partner family (who will occupy and ultimately own the home) is also required to work 500 hours of SWEAT EQUITY helping build thier own home and the homes of other HABITAT homeowners. Once the house is completed, it will be sold to the partner family at cost with no profit involved. The family will repay the cost of the house over 20 years by means of a no interest mortgage. As the family makes their payments, their payments will be used to build future HFH homes. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY's founder, Millard Fuller, feels that when people act in response to human need, giving what they have without seeking profit or interest, that God magnifies the effects of such efforts. Habitat refers to this perspective as "the economics of Jesus." Together, the donated labor of construction volunteers, the support of partner organizations and the homeowners' "sweat equity" make Habitat's house-building possible. By sharing resources with those in need, Habitat volunteers and supporters have made decent, affordable housing a reality for more than 150,000 families worldwide. The no-profit, no-interest components of the program come from a passage in the Bible (Exodus 22:25) that says those lending money to the poor should not act as a creditor and charge interest. To make a donation, please complete the spaces below. Please tear off the bottom of the page and mail your donation to the address below. You will receive a tax receipt directly from Cleveland HFH.
