Rules for Children Volunteers

 

GENERAL:          “Off-site” means: In a safe place, away from the construction site (Church basement, empty parking lot, adjacent lot, etc.).

 

1.                   UNDER 14 YEARS OF AGE:    Can volunteer for affiliate tasks, such as:

 

a)              Baby sitting young children of volunteers working at the construction site in an off-site location
            (church or home of adult volunteer).

b)             Preparing food off-site.

c)              Fundraising activities (i.e. – walking in walkathon, selling or giving out items and food/soft
            drinks).

 

2.                   14 & 15 YEARS OF AGE:               Are not allowed on construction site when construction is

                going  on, but can volunteer for:

 

a)              Helping with raking/seeding the lawn, landscaping or plant flowers and shrubs when no        
construction is going on.

b)             Painting indoors when no other construction is going on.

c)              Painting base boards, doors, door frames, etc. off-site.

 

3.                   16 & 17 YEARS OF AGE:                Children under 18 are not allowed to engage in ultra   
                hazardous activities such as using power tools and working more than 8 feet off the ground
                (Roofing, framing on 2nd floor). The can do:

 

a)              Help with framing using hand tools on first floor with no openings in floor.

b)             Help with putting up siding.

c)              Build outdoor staircases for porches and side entrances.

 

SPECIAL EXCEPTIONS:               Children who are in an apprenticeship or vocational program may be allowed to do some normally prohibited activities if they are supervised by their teacher or qualified instructor. (i.e. - carpentry students might be allowed to use power saws, etc.).
