tips, etc.
- Site Selection & Procurement
This committee works with the local affiliate's board of directors to define focus
areas or neighborhoods and works to acquire building sites within them. Sometimes, focus
areas are best tackled by renovating or rehabilitating existing structures. In other
instances, land donations present opportunities for new construction. Focus area research
helps affiliates determine if they should concentrate on large property development or
scattered site development.
- Building / Construction Coordination
& Supervision
This committee works with Site Selection to evaluate potential sites, creates
workable house plans, develops systems and schedules for organizing families and
volunteers for construction, and establishes contacts in the professional community.
- Volunteer Coordinating
This committee works to find and coordinate the volunteer resources for both
construction and nonconstruction needs.
- Church Relations
Pursuing partnerships with faith communities falls under the jurisdiction of an
affiliate's church relations committee, though sometimes a development or volunteer
committee handles it instead. Committee members serve as liaisons between the church and
the affiliate, making presentations to congregations on Habitat's behalf and passing along
information on groundbreakings, volunteer workdays and house dedications.
- Delinquent Pay
This committee may help a family with special needs for assistance. A
Family Sponsor should act as a mediator for problems such as delinquent house payments.
- Board Development
The primary focus of the Executive Director and Board should be to develop that
part of the organization that will run the program.
